Thank you so much for this interview. Larken is quite heroic in my book.
I’ve been thinking about my situation, working, paying taxes, staying free. I feel drawn toward living a simple life where my tax burden is zero or very close to zero. I wonder if this is possible in the modern world… It would obviously require a lot of sacrifice of luxury and modern fun. But I think it would help that nagging conscience.
Larken, I hear ya on this business about re-examining our assumptions. I’m ashamed of the things I did when I was younger, even though my intentions were good back then. I’m ashamed how long it took me to figure out I was aiding evil. I’m now doing penance for all the damage I did back then.
Your point about thoughtful cops and soldiers is excellent, and it mirrors what Gene Sharp says about nonviolent resistance. That thing you said that “everyone wants to be second”, that few people want to be the one that say, “Hey, wait a minute” is a nice way of putting it. That’s encouraging that we don’t need a majority of enforcers to be philosophical angels, that we only need a tiny minority of them to be that, and they will drag along a lot of their co-workers just by raising questions.
As to Ron Paul, I agree completely. See my article here: http://www.thepriceofliberty.org/2011/07/04/bonneau.html
I suppose the best possible outcome (and a fairly likely one) is that Paul makes a good run but has the election obviously stolen from him, or failing that (sad to say) is assassinated. That’s going to wake a shit-load of people up. No wonder the ruling class fears him so much.
