About three years ago, I took my kids to the pediatrician for their yearly physical, and he asked them about firearms and drug use in the home. We have been going to him since the kids were babies, and I could tell he was uncomfortable and embarrassed to ask. He apologized to me, and said that he was required by law to ask them, and that it wasn’t something that he liked to do. I think I read an article later saying that it was a new requirement in Massachusetts. Yes, I know, I live in a horrible state.

Comparing those is a little hard because bombs are intended to do both (destroy lives and property) whereas guns are just for use against people. The better comparison to make is how much did the bombs cost (about a billion 1945 dollars ea. according to Truman’s announcement) versus what that money and time could have accomplished for peaceful purposes.

If we assume 2 rounds will cause a casualty then that is 5 casualties for a 10-round mag. According to wikipedia 90,000–166,000 people died in the bombing of Hiroshima, with half dying in the initial blast. Therefore that bomb equates to about 138,000 / 5 = 27,400 ten round mags. Note the bombs of today are much more powerful than the ones dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
