WHAT’S A FEEN? “Feen” is how a little kid would say “fiend”, which we think is cute. It’s also “fiend” in street speak. ”Hello freedom feens….” is the first line in one of the songs Neema and Michael wrote for the “Guns and Weed” movie. That’s where the name of the show comes from. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IL8xypr4UMg
WHAT’S A PODCAST? “A podcast is a series of related digital audio files that are released episodically and downloaded through web syndication. The word podcast replaced webcast in common use with the success of the iPod and its role in the rising popularity and innovation of RSS web feeds……” (from Wikipedia)
WILL YOU INTERVIEW ME, MY FRIEND, SOME GUY I LIKE, ETC? At least ten people a week write us and say “You should interview so-and-so…..” However, we don’t interview people on this show. Freedom Feens is just two really good friends, Michael W. Dean and Neema Vedadi, yacking. We really like our existing dynamic and so do our fans. Also, we have such a backlog of things to talk about that we’re still trying to catch up. If you think so-and-so deserves to be interviewed, you’re probably right, and you should start a podcast and interview them. Here’s technical info on how to podcast.
We do have another cast where we do interviews (they’re more like conversations actually), the Anarchy Gumbo Podcast, here.
HOW, WHEN, AND WHERE DID THE SHOW COME TO BE? Michael W. Dean and Neema Vedadi had so much fun making the Guns and Weed movie, they wanted to keep working together. Since they no longer both live in Wyoming (Neema moved to Washington State), they decided a podcast would be a fun, quick and easy way to do that. Podcast went live Thursday, March 31, 2011. They started doing a show on LRN streaming audio a year later. In February 2013, they went to national radio syndication.
WHAT’S THIS SHOW ABOUT? The Freedom Feens podcast is all about freedom. This is Michael W. Dean and Neema Vedadi’s fun ‘n’ feisty weekly chat about Constitutional, libertarian, voluntaryist, minarchist and anarchist issues, abuse of authority by police, the War on Drugs, self-defense, States’ Rights, Natural Rights, Austrian Economics, the problems of a two-party system, taxation, guns, cats, dogs, anarchy, DIY art, low-budget filmmaking, digital recording, activism, punk rock, sex, hip-hop and more. And remember, the only power they have is the power you allow them.
WHAT’S THE MUSIC IN THE INTRO AND THE OUTRO? That’s music Neema and Michael made for their Guns and Weed movie. You can download all the songs free, HERE. There is also a lot of other music in the cast. Except where indicated, it’s almost always music by Michael, Neema, or both of them together.
WHEN WILL THE NEW EPISODE BE OUT? HOW LONG ARE THEY? The episodes are about 90 minutes each (give or take a few minutes). A new episode comes out every week, usually on Wednesday afternoon (Wyoming time), but always sometime between Wednesday PM and Friday PM. Our call-in show streams live Sunday from 3-5 PM (Wyoming time) and is usually up on the archives an hour or two after it’s done.
WHY DO YOU CENSOR OUT THE CUSSING? Because we are syndicated on radio. We cuss like sailors, but beep it out during the editing, because we don’t want anyone to be able to block our important message because of some nanny laws or rules about swearing.
HOW CAN I CONTACT YOU? E-mail email@example.com Don’t add us to any lists, but feel free to say hi and tell us what’s on your mind. Unless you specify otherwise, we may read your letter on the podcast, and will use only your first name. If you tell us we can use your full name, we may. If you tell us not to read your letter on the cast, we will respect your privacy, unless you’re insulting or threatening us, in which case, all bets are off. There’s also a Facebook link over on the right.
WHO’S THE INCREDIBLY CUTE GIRL IN THE “FREEDOM FEEN” SHIRT AT THE TOP AND MIDDLE RIGHT OF EVERY PAGE? That’s Iva Milakovic, a fan of the cast and a friend of Michael’s. She lives in Italy.
I LOVE WHAT YOU GUYS DO. HOW CAN I HELP OUT? Well, first of all, tell two friends. (Or ten friends.) Promo info to help with that is HERE. We also could use donations of any amount. We accept donations via PayPal or credit cards (through PayPal). Make donations HERE.
HOW DO YOU RECORD SUCH A GREAT-SOUNDING PODCAST? I MEAN, SERIOUSLY, IT SOUNDS STELLAR. NO OTHER PODCASTS SOUND THIS GOOD, EVEN ONES FROM MAJOR MEDIA CORPORATIONS. HOW DO YOU DO IT? It takes a lot of talent, work and time. Info on the technical aspects of what we do is HERE.
I LOVE THE LOOK OF THIS WEBSITE. WHO MADE IT AND HOW? Freedom Feen Michael Dean does the website. It’s WordPress, template Carrington Blog with a bunch of widgets, and some crucial adjustments and tweaks done by Michael. It’s hosted on HostGator, who offer one-click WordPress installation.
WHO MADE YOUR AWESOME BENGAL KITTY HEADER ON EACH PAGE?
The talented Matt Sprinkle at Flathead Media
