Bernie Madoff, the official story.

But this long run is a misleading guide to current affairs. In the long run we are all dead. John Maynard Keynes. A Tract on Monetary Reform (1923), Ch. 3

Last week ABC aired an interesting program. Kind of a movie, kind of a miniseries. With commercials it was four hours long but I think that it was good enough to get past my current intifada on excessively long movies.

The 2008 financial crisis shook this country to its core. The decidedly unsustainable and insane financial system that has driven this country and most of the developed world for almost a century since a secret meetings of a bunch of insanely powerful and rich guys at Jekyll Island plotted to get even more wealth and power was partially revealed as what it was. A scam, a really, really big scam that billions of people depend on. But a scam nonetheless.

Excellent water test kit for $30

51bgdrAQJwL

Freaked out about the lead crisis in Michigan? I was. So I bought this kick-ass water test kit on Amazon. It’s easy to use and tests for many things, including lead:

  • Test Each For Bacteria, Lead and Pesticides
  • 2 Tests Each For Chlorine, Copper, Iron, Hardness, Alkalinity, pH, Nitrates, Nitrites
  • Monitor The Performance Of Your Water Treatment Equipment, Lab Certified
  • No Mailing or Lab Fees; Everything You Need Is Included In One Package

Our water tested good on everything. Our water is hard, but not dangerous. This all confirms tests we had done professionally a few years ago, for a lot more money. (We had to send that away to a lab. This you all do yourself at home.) Plus, we water filter all our drinking water.

Get it today!

Feen the Homeless – Please donate

CIMG1530These digital MP3 players and the SD card for them cost ten bucks each. We have 30 of them. And some Feen radios.

I’ve loaded each of these MP3 players with the last 100 episodes of the Freedom Feens. They will make a cold winter less crappy for homeless people in Philly, where James and Steve will be handing them out.

We also have radios, and are hoping to also bring the homeless a sandwich and maybe some hot soup and coffee. If we can raise enough money. Because Man cannot live by Feens alone.

FAQ:

Q. So is the idea here to give homeless people radios? Because I would think they’d want clothes and food.

A. The idea is to give them radios pre-tuned to a liberty channel in their area and epoxied to only play that one channel. And we have some MP3 players filled with Freedom Feens episodes to give away. We’re also gonna give them coffee and soup. If that doesn’t suit anyone’s idea of useful charity, they should go do their own outreach.

Awesome recording pulse oximeter wearable – product review and tutorial of CMS 50F

PulseOx-light

PulseOx-darkThe Contec CMS 50F is an amazing bit of kit and I’m digging it.

This thing is GREAT. Less than a hundred bucks (get it HERE on Amazon), it displays and records your oxygen level and your pulse. My friend Steve calls it the “Un-fit Bit”, as in a FitBit for me to measure my poor health. lol. (And it’s more accurate than FitBits recently were alleged to be.)

13 Hours, well worth your time.

When I heard that Michael Bay was making a movie about the attacks on the U.S. Consulate and CIA annex in Benghazi Libya I remember thinking. This movie is going to either be really good or really bad. In either case I knew that it would have a lot of big pretty explosions. Unlike an awful lot of people I do not hold mr Bay responsible for “ruining my childhood” by directing a series of lousy Transformers films. Make no mistake, I don’t think his Transformers movies are good. But entirely too many people forget that the original cartoon wasn’t exactly Shakespeare.

I will say that when I saw the third movie when the credits rolled most of the audience in the theater stood up and applauded. Which brings me to one of the points I want to make here. Bay is capable of making very good movies. In a strictly technical sense his films are beautiful. It’s just that they have an annoying habit of barreling headlong into a nightmare of bad acting, overused effects and sooooooo much product placement.

Not all of his films though. Pain and Gain was one of the best films I saw last year. And I hoped that 13 Hours would go more in that direction. The direction being reflective of one of my often used and absolute favorite quotes. “The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense.” Tom Clancy.

Zastava PAP Pistol Part Three, Final Form?

Final form

I flew too close to the sun on wings of pastrami.
George Constanza

When we left off in part three I was pretty satisfied with my weapon. But I am not the type to allow things to remain at the level of satisfied. I go for perfection as often as I can. However this time I bit off a bit more than I could chew. I certainly exceeded my skill set and toolkit.

The only improvement I seemingly had left for my AK pistol was a folding adaptor for the brace. I figure there is little point in having a chopped down long gun unless you can reduce it down to its smallest size. There are a few folding devices available on the market for rifle stocks and pistol braces. Not as many as I would like, most of them are pretty pricey and require drilling and tapping the rear receiver. After a bit of digging I found two relatively inexpensive folding adapters that would interface with the SB47 brace. One was made by UTG in China and the other was sold by U.S. Machinegun.

Update on my CPAP and my health

25C7470000000578-0-image-a-13_1424251317989

(My first post on cpaptalk.com):

Last night was my my 4th night on CPAP / ASV. It’s helping, not miraculous overnight, but better.

Just wanted to say hi, maybe get some encouragement to stay on CPAP. I don’t love it, but reading here, seems no one really does at first.

I did read that Kindle book about Apnea by Phil Elmore. Liked it a lot, and it gave me hope. (And it’s funny, which helps.)

I am also looking for some help understanding Sleephead software read outs.

I am 51 years old. Mildly asthmatic as a kid. Smoked average two packs of ciggs for 30 years. Quit 4 years ago. Vaped nicotine heavily for about 3.5 years. Quit that first day of Spring this year.

Was still more or less healthy until January this year, suddenly started getting horrible asthma. Over the past year, I’ve dealt with a crap-load of health events that have taken me from fairly healthy to feeling like I’m dying. I can’t even do basic household stuff anymore like take the trash cans to the end of a 30-foot driveway without getting horribly winded and needing a half-hour to recover.

SleepyHead – free software for reading CPAP machine data cards

sheep

(mini-review by Michael W. Dean)

I found this open source (GNU) software on Apneaboard.com (a Sleep Apnea forum. This software is also on other sleep apnea forums.)

Get the Sleepyhead Software for PC or Mac, HERE. Very cool.

Be sure to LOCK your SD card before reading it (physically move the little switch on the side), and UNLOCK it (physically move the little switch on the side back) before re-inserting in your CPAP machine.

Some people on the ApneaBoard helped me read the stats, and said I’m doing WAY better with it than most people do their first week. And I’m feeling better too. (HERE is more info on where my health is at).

I just installed the SleepyHead software and checked my card, Here’s the initial info:

The last time you used your ResMed VPAP Adapt ASV…
was last night (on Friday, December 11, 2015)
You had an AHI of 1.70, which is considered reasonably good
You machine was on for 8 hours, 50 minutes and 2 seconds.
You had significant periods of major mask leakage.
Your EPAP pressure was under 14.98cmH2O for 95% of the time.
Your IPAP pressure was under 22.02cmH2O for 95% of the time.

Here are screenshots of my machine from last night (click image to see large):

Libertarians: to look old and smart, don’t wear a bow tie, get 1 of these for 9 bucks on Amazon and keep it with you always, like I do. It’s great for reading the tiny warning labels on the big pharma meds you end up on when you’re old enough to need one.
