DNA Scientist Kevin McKernan Drops Mad Science About Science – Freedom Feens live radio archive

Kevin McKernan of Courtagen lays out some uncommon truths about science and does it in common language that is both educational and fun. Topics include: personalized medicine, sequencing made easier, regulation, blockades to progress, moving locations to find the least blockades possible, the odd idea of governments “bidding” on “who will impede the free market less?” to attract companies, and what the future holds for personal liberty. Also, why would someone buy a typewriter in this day and age? (Hint: because someone forced you to at gunpoint!)

Kevin McKernan, thank you for your service.

This was a bucket of fun. Listening to it I came across like a patent apologist. First, I don’t own any patents myself. Companies I worked for do. Most of my time today is spent doing science which destroys patents or makes it very difficult for markets we enter to be governed by them and deliver our company and often others FTO (freedom to operate).
The cannabis genome was put public to present prior art and keep the genome open for all. This has been registered with the USPTO so they can’t miss the prior art. This part was not cheap.
Dream PCR was developed to challenge ~4000 gene patents. We could have done 30 mins on this alone but here’s a link.

Good times. Best to the Vidadi’s

It’s all good, and we’d love to have you on again sometimes. You’re brilliant, funny, have a good mic now, and we worked out the kinks of your first show dealing with a program clock and ads.

      Worms, bro.

Agreed! This was one of my favorite episodes. Fascinating!

  4. Mark says:

Instead of the stereotypical white lab coat, does Kevin McKernan have a black and yellow coat? Or would that scare everybody around him?

Wow, I never thought the scientist /geek stereotype could be so utterly destroyed!

That was a great show, I really enjoyed it.
