Ben Stone and Michael Dean: Do Everything as if it’s the Only Thing You’ll Be Remembered For – Freedom Feens radio archive

Ben Stone the Bad Quaker and Michael W. Dean imitate two old coots sitting on the porch discussing mortality. They do the show they’d do if they knew they were going to die tomorrow. It’s a heavy episode, with some fun and a bunch of redemption in the third act.

“Do everything as if it’s the only thing you’ll be remembered for.”
–Michael W. Dean

While I agree in the collectivism of holidays, someone gave me an interesting perspective recently. They said if we didn’t have federal holidays it would be that much harder to get together (family-wise). This of course assumes you WANT to get together with your family (which I do). It softened my opinion a little.

    Great show-

Dennis New; I recognize you as a nasty troll, posting for the pure and simple purpose of gratifying your sick ego.
    You need help.
You will never get the satisfaction you seek by insulting others. To find peace you have to find peace with yourself first. You can’t do that by picking fights with others.
Look inside yourself and ask why you feel the need to start fights.

Ben is a good judge of character. I’ve had my doubts about this Dennis New guy. Everything Dennis posts is snitty, but hiding behind “Hey man, I’m just asking questions!” But the questions and comments don’t bring anything, the always try to cut people down. A troll is a troll is a troll. His post all have a “fuck you, Feens, you’re always wrong and I’m always right” undercurrent.

Any comments from this guy are going into the trash going forth. He’s had a good run, and we’re generally tolerant people, but I’m blocking him. Dennis is a passive-aggressive soul mosquito.

Judging by this man’s wikipedia photo he picked his stage name well:

You and the Bad Quaker are the best teachers on the radio.

Also, what’s with the “good will to all men” thing. It almost seems like an excuse to be, well, not so good to other people the rest of the year for many people if you then “repent” at Xmas time and be good to people a few times. Or buying an expensive present is supposed to somehow make up for all the prior shitty behaviour which will just continue again in the near future.

Or maybe it’s just my bias being part of my family. I often say to people, “I come from a long line of assholes”. 🙂 I’m quite happy to pretend XMas doesn’t exist these days. Like Ben says, it’s just another day, except unfortunately, virtually nothing is open.
